Are more charging piles imperative to future electrified transportation system?

Scholars and practitioners believe that the large-scale deployment of charging piles is imperative to our future electric transportation systems. Major economies ambitiously install pile networks, with massive construction spending, maintenance costs, urban space occupation. However, recent developments in technology may significantly reduce necessary capacity required by system. This paper develops a linear programming model characterize effects likely scenarios where vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) available via vehicle modularization or wireless charging. Specifically, we consider which vehicles can transmit energy each other (coordinated central platform) while traveling closely on same road. We first estimate number needed for completing travel plan 73 cars from data, assuming battery 400 km’s range no V2V Our results show once technologies an efficiency 50% are available, more than 2/3 investment would be wasted. Additionally, if increases 75%, easily 200 km, will production costs improve efficiency. These reveal us alternative pathway towards electrification.
